Why a box, and why Hermes

Hermes is the fastest-growing personal agent of 2026 — and the #1 ranked app on OpenRouter. But upstream it ships as a command-line tool you have to babysit. We turn it into an appliance.

Hermes on a rented VPS is a liability — an always-on agent with your credentials, on someone else's machine, exposed to the internet. Hermes on a ClawBox is an appliance: it sits on your LAN, holds its own keys, and takes its updates from a release we pinned and tested rather than from whatever upstream pushed last night.

The hardware for Hermes, from the people who make hardware

Hermes Agent is built by Nous Research and released open-source under MIT. We didn't write it, and we don't fork it — we do the part they deliberately left to you: the box it lives on, the service that keeps it alive, and the hardening that keeps it yours.

The same box our owners already run

Hermes Edition is the ClawBox hardware you've seen reviewed — the difference is the runtime we flash on it.

ClawBox unboxing and setup

What you get out of the box

🔌

Plug in, pair, done

Phone-only setup wizard — WiFi, provider, Telegram. No keyboard, no monitor, no Docker.

🛡️

Hardened before it ships

Zero exposed ports, curated skills only, firewalled by default. Every unit flashed and tested in the EU.

🔁

It maintains itself

Pinned releases and automatic security patches, tested on the same hardware you own before they reach your box.

What people actually run on it

An agent that never sleeps is only useful if it's doing something. Here's what owners put theirs to work on.

ClawBox on a desk
Hermes drives a real browser and your mailbox while you're away — chasing invoices, watching prices, filing receipts, drafting replies for your approval.
  • Runs on a schedule or on a message from you
  • Keeps its own long-term memory between runs
  • Asks before anything irreversible
Message the box like a person. It answers from your own data, on your own hardware — and the people you pair it with can use it too.
  • Pair by QR in the setup wizard
  • Voice notes in, spoken answers back
  • Approvals and alerts land in the same chat
Run local models through Ollama and the box needs no cloud key at all. Use a frontier API when you want the quality — the choice stays yours, per task.
  • Local inference on 67 TOPS of Jetson silicon
  • Your keys live on your box, not our servers
  • Full root and SSH access — it's your computer
1–3 days

Built to order. On your desk in days, not months.

We don't drop-ship from a warehouse. When your order lands, we flash the Hermes image, run the full test suite on your actual unit, and hand it to the courier — within 1–3 working days, from Bulgaria.

Set up in five minutes, from your phone

No terminal. No glibc versions. No YAML. Plug it in and follow five screens.

The box raises its own WiFi access point on first boot. Join it from your phone and the wizard walks you through: welcome, security, WiFi, provider, Telegram — then it's live.
Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek, z.AI, MiniMax, OpenRouter, or a Nous Portal subscription — all supported. Or pick Ollama and run entirely offline on the box's own GPU.
We pin upstream Hermes releases, test them on real hardware, then push them to your box over the air. Security fixes are fast-tracked ahead of the normal release train.
ClawBox held in a hand — it fits in your palm

Hermes or OpenClaw — honestly

We sell both. They're different tools, and the right answer depends on what you want the box to do. Here's the version we'd give a friend.

Momentum in 2026Fastest-growing agent of the year; #1 on OpenRouterLarger installed base, growth plateaued
Provider riskCross-provider by design — survives one vendor changing its termsHit hard when subscription auth was withdrawn in April 2026
Ecosystem maturityYounger; smaller skill libraryBigger app store, more integrations, more polish
Security track recordLess battle-tested — no large-scale incident yet, and no proof either wayStress-tested the hard way; hardening is well understood

Same hardware, same warranty, same support either way — the runtime is a choice, not a different product. Dual-runtime on one box is on the roadmap.

Questions people ask before buying

How fast does it ship?
We build to order rather than stockpile, so 1–3 working days is our commitment to ship, not to deliver. When your order comes in we flash your unit, run the full test suite on it, and hand it to DHL. Transit time then depends on where you are — typically 1–3 days inside the EU.
What does it cost to run?
Electricity is about €39 a year at 7–15 W. Beyond that it depends on your AI provider: local models through Ollama cost nothing per token, and a cloud API is billed by that provider directly — typically €5–20 a month for personal use. We don't take a cut and we don't require a subscription.
Can it run OpenClaw as well?
Hermes Edition ships deliberately Hermes-only, so the box has one job and one attack surface. It's the same hardware as our OpenClaw Edition, and running both runtimes on a single box is on the roadmap — if you'd rather have OpenClaw today, buy that edition instead and you lose nothing.
How private is it, really?
The box sits on your network with no inbound ports open. Your provider keys are stored on the device, not with us. With a local model selected, nothing leaves your home at all. You get full root and SSH access — we can't see inside your box, and neither can anyone else without your say-so.
What happens when Hermes releases a breaking change?
You're not tracking upstream directly — we are. We pin a known-good release, test it on the same hardware you own, and only then push it to you. Security fixes are fast-tracked ahead of the normal release train.
Who's behind this?
ID Robots Ltd, a robotics and edge-AI company in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. We've been shipping ClawBox hardware since 2026 — every unit is assembled, flashed and tested by us, in the EU.
