Four months of work. 154 pull requests. Over a thousand changes across nearly 1,200 files. Here's the biggest update we've shipped since launch.
One box. Two brains.
ClawBox always let you pick your AI. V4 makes the split official. OpenClaw stays the assistant most owners already run. A new Hermes edition ships with its own agent, its own skills store, and its own dashboard. Want both on one machine? Order the Dual edition.
Important: The edition is set when your box is built or reflashed. It is not flipped in a settings menu.
Every screen adapts to match the AI running underneath: setup, updates, and the assistant's own abilities. A feature missing from your edition now says so, instead of sitting there doing nothing while you wonder why.
Message the box from anywhere
Telegram was the only channel in V3. V4 adds WhatsApp and Discord, both set up from the Settings screen. No config files. No terminal.
- WhatsApp pairs with a QR code shown directly in the ClawBox interface.
- Discord checks your bot token against Discord's own servers before saving, so a typo gets caught immediately instead of failing three days later.
- Member controls let you choose exactly who is allowed to message the box.
Email, with a lock the AI does not hold the key to
New in V4: your box reads mail, drafts replies, or does both, depending on the mode you set.
The mail reader has no command to mark a message read or move anything around. It is physically incapable of doing so.
Every reply your box drafts sits untouched until you sign in and approve it. The assistant cannot approve its own draft. No workaround. No admin override.
A serious security pass
The old admin shortcut, the one letting anyone with device access do anything, is gone. It has been replaced with a short list of exactly what the box needs to run.
- Nothing on the device answers a query before setup finishes.
- A factory reset now requires your sign-in before wiping the drive.
The real headline: a box built to stop lying to you
Nineteen separate fixes went into one goal: making ClawBox tell the truth about what happened.
An install used to report "done" after quietly failing. A busy service looked like a crash. A setting you flipped on did not take effect until reboot. V4 chases these down everywhere, not only where someone happened to notice.
Sounds dull on paper. It feels completely different on your desk, when the box tells you what went wrong instead of leaving you guessing.
And this is not the whole release
Plenty more lands with the beta. What you just read is the part that is finished enough to describe. The rest gets named when it is stable enough to promise, and beta testers see it first.
